We felt like royalty
From the moment we arrived until we left four days later, we had the best holiday break at Balmoral House in Katoomba. We chose the house because it sounded so much more interesting than any of the other places we found described on the web.
And we were not disappointed. The house is a fascinating place, filled with all sorts of treasures from the past 150 or so years. The boys were so friendly and accommodating, I am sure we wouldn't have been better looked after in a larger hotel. We felt like we were a much loved part of an extended family.
Even though they were clearly busy - preparing for a wedding, Glenn told us - we were really looked after so well. We were
exhausted from travelling so we stayed in for dinner the first night. And what a wonderful decision that turned out to be.
Mel is an inspired chef and the portions were just right. It was such a delicious meal, we decided to eat in on the other
nights as well just so we could eat our way through the whole menu.
The rooms are small and there is no wardrobe but that didn't bother us. After all, Balmoral House is a period guesthouse
not a modern hotel and that's exactly what we wanted. We went to our room each night to sleep and spent our days wandering
the house or taking short strolls to Katoomba Street. The front door was always opened for us,
as Glenn had already explained all we had to do was to ring the doorbell. He made us feel like royalty!
Though our bedroom was at the front of the house, we didn't notice any excessive noise. The occasional train rushing by didn't bother us; and as the house is quite a distance from the highway we didn't notice any traffic noise either.
All in all, if you're looking for the relaxed, friendly and personal approach of a small country hotel, I can heartily recommend a stay at Balmoral House, Katoomba.
