Annual events in the Blue Mountains

There's plenty to see and do in the Blue Mountains and surrounds all year round, from arts, food, wine and music festivals to marathons and climbing events.

January

"One Van" International Festival of Puppetry explores a wide range of puppetry forms from shadow puppetry to large scale outdoor puppets, from puppets in animation to performers who combine theatre, puppetry and animation.

February

The Oberon Show includes two days of cattle judging and equestrian events, yard dog trials, dog show, shearing, pavilion classes, a ute muster, puppet shows, a snake show, tractor pull, bull ride, sideshow alley and fireworks.

First Flower and Craft Show (4782 5382) in Blackheath is an exhibition of local summer flowers, ferns, succulents and vegetables with many types of craft and cooking.

March

Blue Mountains Music Festival is a three day festival of folk, roots and blues music, featuring selected artists from around the world and across Australia.

Six Foot Track Marathon is a 45km race along the Six Foot Track, a footpath stretching from Katoomba to Jenolan Caves. The race is a fundraiser for the Rural Fire Service and the Six Foot Track Heritage Trust. It attracts more than 700 entrants.

April

Ironfest is a cultural heritage festival that celebrates artistic and technological innovation. Held in Lithgow over the Anzac Day weekend, the festival includes art exhibitions, stalls, live music, historical re-enactments, demonstrations, workshops, competitions and lots more!

Springwood Model Railway Exhibition has become established as one of the premier railway modelling shows in the Sydney area, attracting exhibitors and modellers from all over Australia. It is held at St Thomas Aquinas School.

Food with Altitude is a popular event in Blackheath with food and wine stalls featuring local restaurants and cafes, gourmet producers and cool climate wines.

May

The Mount Victoria Village Great Train Weekend includes activities organised for the whole weekend, like the daily 3801 Train Journey From Central Station to Mount Victoria, a model railway exhibition at the local school, a brass band recital and market stalls.

June

The Winter Magic Festival is Katoomba's largest event and the only time the main street is closed for the day and lined with market stalls. Everyone is encouraged to dress in costume. There is live music throughout the day, and local performers, community groups and schools perform at various stages about the centre of town.

The Dreaming in Woodford is a celebration of indigenous culture through showcases in ceremony, dance, music, storytelling, theatre, comedy and art.

July

Yulefest in the Blue Mountains gives every Australian the chance to experience a European Christmas in the middle of the year. People from all over the world visit Katoomba and surrounding areas to indulge in seasonal fare, to roast by open fires and to enjoy the snow.

August

Springwood High School Art Show is an exhibition of more than 1000 paintings, crafts and pottery pieces from well-known artists. All works are for sale at reasonable prices and proceeds are used to support the school.

September

Leura Gardens Festival is an event offering public access to nine private gardens. Starting in late September, the open days continue until mid-October. A shuttle bus service operates between the gardens each day.

The Daffodil Fair is held in the Community Hall in Blackheath. You'll see a vivid display of bright daffodils, spring flowers and blossoms, as well as beautiful exhibits of floral art.

October

Songlines Festival is a literary, musical and visual arts feast held over 3 weekends. Experience the cultural wealth of the Blue Mountains in a contemporary arts festival.

Blackheath Rhododendron Festival is held in Blackheath from late October to mid November and is the longest running festival in NSW.  The focus of the festival are the more than 1550 bushes in full bloom at the Rhododendron Gardens.
